Ship runs aground in Gibraltar bay

Panamanian cargo boat, ‘Sierra Nava’ slipped anchor and ran aground on a beach at the Bay of Gibraltar on Sunday morning. It happened after the vessel had taken shelter because of the high winds in the area.

Reports indicate that an unknown amount of fuel has escaped from the ship which now lies 20 metres off shore. It is feared that fuel spreads across the Strait of Gibraltar.
