Spanish television

Concerning TV channels in Spain, we can describe the current situation, more or less, as follows (notice that most of channels are identified by numbers):
  • Two public channels (State level): TVE1, La2
  • Lots of regional TV channels: TeleMadrid (Madrid), ETB (Basque), Canal Sur (Andalucía), TVG (Galicia)...
  • 4 private channels (State level): A3, Cuatro, Tele5, LaSexta
Biggest audiencies goes to the following programmes:
  • Soccer: Real Madrid and Barcelona games (some are broadcasted on a "pay per view" system)
  • TV movies: mostly US movies (spanish productions are compulsory financed by spaniards, though not very watched)
  • TV series: national productions and US productions (House, Sex & the city, The Simpsons...)
  • Reality shows: Operación Triunfo (popstars), Big Brother.
Some tendencies:
  • Some have satellite dishes, but Spanish presence over the Satellite is pitiful, so satellite is mainly accessed by foreigners in Spain.
  • Few (but increasing) download US series and movies via eMule.
  • Few (but increasing) watch live sports over the Internet (profiting chinese broadcastings)
  • Few (but increasing) have got Hard Disk Drives for TV. TiVo has not arrived yet.
Obviously, advertising agencies are worried about this tendencies. In fact, there has been a big increase in the so-called "product placement".

Anything against product placement?
